The tenth edition of Llewellyn-Jones Fundamentals of Obstetrics and Gynaecology carries on the mission of Derek Llewellyn-Jones (encapsulated in the first edition of this book, published in 1969) to support the WHO's target to ensure women worldwide have good healthcare, safe deliveries and healthy children. In his words: 'It is our hope to continue to meet the needs of today's medical students and students of nursing and midwifery; and to encourage self-learning skills while providing essential information in a readable manner'.

‘The book starts off with a chapter on history taking and examination which is a good introduction to this speciality. From there, the normal physiology of menstruation right through to child birth is well explained. This seems like a logical progression. Chapters focus on complications and diseases, firstly in obstetrics and then in gynaecology. In all of the chapters there are numerous diagrams, tables and photographs to help explain the topic more clearly. The anatomy is also mentioned within chapters and in a stand-alone chapter at the end which is very useful. … This is the best book in this speciality that I have come across and I would highly recommend it.’
